THE WWF

World wildlife fund was registered as on 11th September 1961 for the purpose of wildlife conservation. The organization was an initiative of a small group of ardent, mostly British naturalists and conservationists, i.e. Max Nicholson, Julian Huxley, Peter Scott, Guy Mount fort. The organization’s first office was established at Morges, Switzerland.

There is a small confusion existing on the name of WWF (World wide fund for Nature). At the initial stage the name of the organization was WORLD WILDLIFE FUND. The organization functioned around 25 years with this initial name. In 1986 because of the expansion of goals and task assigned to the organization its name was changed as ‘WORLD WIDE FUND FOR NATURE’. The name remained unchanged in America and Canada because of severe opposition on the name changes. The abbreviation remained as WWF on official records.

The searching of an official logo comes to an end at the London zoo. Her name was “Chi - Chi”. She was the only Giant Panda residing in the west, had arrived from the mysteries of Communist China and was an endangered species. Later Peter Scott sketched the logo of “ Chi –Chi” and she became the official logo of WWF.
